Anstruther Fish Bar batters the competition

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 40, Issue 4.

Scotland's Anstruther Fish Bar scooped the staff training and development award at the latest Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition, for showing the most commitment to the training and development of its staff.

Richard Wardell, training advisor for Seafish, which organizes the competition, said:

The winning shop has robust training standards in place and really stood out as an excellent example of a shop giving something back to its staff. As well as staff appraisals, external and internal training, the management team also encourages staff to input ideas to the business and work their way up the career ladder.

Owner Alison Smith commented:

Our most important asset is our staff and we are delighted to be able to take this award home for them. They work extremely hard to maintain our reputation as one of the top chippies in Scotland, and helping them to progress in their career gives us great satisfaction.

The Townhead Café in Biggar, Scotland, was crowned the UK's chippy champion, followed by Andy's Fish Bar of Swalincote in second place and Seniors from Thornton, Cleveleys, in third.
