Airbus accountants are flying high
The high standards of employee training and development at European aircraft-maker Airbus have been recognized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the world’s largest international professional accountancy body.
Airbus has qualified as an approved continuing professional development (CPD) employer under the ACCA Plus scheme, which is part of ACCA’s new global CPD programme, ACCA Realize.
Under the scheme, workplace learning, reading and research, e-learning via the internet or other multimedia, writing and presenting business articles and attendance at courses and seminars can all be recognized as CPD activities. CPD is the process by which accountants keep their skills and knowledge continuously updated, after qualifying.
As part of the programme, employers whose training schemes meet ACCA’s criteria can become ACCA Plus-approved CPD employers, and are rewarded with a range of tools to help to implement their staff-development programmes. These include e-learning resources such as online courses, a CPD planning tool known as the professional-development matrix, and a knowledge library, an internet-based research-resource tool.
Chris Sparkes, Airbus UK deputy chief finance officer, said: “The challenges faced by the aviation industry over the last three or four years have made investment in the professional development of our workforce more important than ever. Airbus is committed to producing highly competent, capable accounting and finance employees, and we are pleased to receive this award in recognition of the support services we give our finance and accounting staff, and the assurances it gives our stakeholders.”
Andrew Harding, executive director (Europe), said: “Increasingly, the provision of comprehensive training and development is seen as an important factor by employees when considering which employer to choose. ACCA Plus provides a benchmark of good practice to employers around the world and gives Airbus public recognition for the quality of support and training it invests in employees.”
