Association calls for “Erasmus for apprentices”

Association calls for “Erasmus for apprentices”

The European Commission should offer apprentices a programme that is as well respected and accessible as the Erasmus programme for students, says the European Association of Craft and Small and Medium-Size Enterprises (UEAPME).

Alain Griset, UEAPME vocational-training committee chairman, wants:

  • a clear definition, at European level, of the status of apprentice;

  • improvements in vocational careers guidance in Europe;

  • a clear framework for vocational qualifications; and

  • better validation of experience gained when trades people opt to work abroad.

UEAPME also wants clearer systems for lifelong learning in the craft and SME sectors.
