Inadequate computer skills waste employees' time
Inadequate computer skills waste employees' time
Three-quarters of British organizations claim that employee time is being wasted because of inadequate computing skills, according to a survey from the British Computer Society. However, the survey reveals that awareness of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification is increasing.
When surveyed in 2001, almost 50 per cent of employers were aware of the qualification but the latest survey shows this figure has increased to just over 60 per cent. Overall awareness of ECDL among individual computer users had risen from 24 per cent to 34 per cent. There are 550,000 candidates across 2,300 test centres currently taking the qualification throughout the UK.
Survey results also show satisfaction among companies currently offering ECDL to their staff. Some 80 per cent said that ECDL is beneficial to the company and 77 per cent said they are likely to recommended ECDL to others.
Of the individuals who expressed an interest in taking the ECDL, 48 per cent cited the main reason would be to increase their knowledge and skills while 30 per cent said it would be to help to improve career or job prospects.
