The Institute of Personnel and Development's year 2000 Training Directory features over 400 training events which cater for every level of skill, interest and experience.
Today's managers need both first-rate people skills and business acumen. The portfolio of management skills is designed to offer managers the opportunity to improve their personal performance as well as develop their line management skills.
The courses fall into four broad categories covering training required by managers today: Leadership, Communication, Business Skills and Customer Care.
The Leadership courses focus on the skills required to build and develop winning and effective teams from "Practical leadership skills" through to "Building high performance teams".
The Communication courses cover subjects as diverse as "Essential communication skills", "Making meetings work" and "Innovative and creative problem solving".
The Business Skills courses aim to provide skills to improve either performance or productivity in a particular area of activity, for example, "Time and self-management", "Rapid and efficient reading", or provide an introduction to a subject, such as "IT for non-IT managers" or "Principles of project management".
Finally, a key addition to this year's directory is the focus on customer care. "How to become customer focused" is aimed at those from all functions and seeks to provide a forum for those acting as ambassadors for change. "Developing call centre staff" aims to tackle issues such as staff retention and effective motivation within this rapidly growing section of the workforce.
The Management Skills portfolio offers a broad range of courses designed to help managers meet the challenges of increased competition within a constantly changing business environment. The courses embrace leading-edge techniques and current business imperatives and are delivered in a practical, relevant way to the highest professional standards.
Other course subjects include Personnel, Reward, Employment Law and Courses for Trainers.
