Crown Agents, the international development company, is celebrating 30 years of running practical management training programmes for delegates from developing countries.
Since 1969, when the first training course was held on Supply and Materials Management, over 17,000 delegates from 137 countries have attended the company's residential management training programmes based in Britain.
To mark the anniversary, and the launch by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply of the new Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Purchasing and Supply, it was announced that Crown Agents is to award an annual prize for the best examination result recorded in this discipline by any trainee from a developing or emerging economy. The company will also be offering a range of courses which follow this new syllabus.
The Crown Agents Foundation, which owns Crown Agents and oversees its activities, launched a special scholarship fund in 1998 to assist a number of delegates with meeting the fees of Crown Agents' courses. Scholarships are awarded on a case by case basis where there is a proven developmental benefit and where the delegate has been unable to secure funding elsewhere.
From the first and only course held in 1969, 80 different training programmes were organized in 1999.
