Operations training simulator launched

Plint & Partners, designer and manufacturer of university and research equipment for worldwide consumption, have launched the TQM 9000 Operations Management Training System, which has been developed to simulate production process management operations and incorporates the Star Micronics "Visual Card" reader/writer system.

The TQM 9000 has been developed for use by students and lecturers in further education and at university level, and for trainers and employees in industrial companies and public institutions. Designed to simulate all of the issues faced in operations management, the TQM 9000 guides its users through 18 scripted exercises from provision of raw materials, right through to manufacturer testing, approval and dispatch. It has been designed to provide hands-on experience of operating a manufacturing unit and is product-independent, appropriate whether the simulation is for filled sandwiches or electronic equipment.

At the core of the TQM 9000 is the Star Micronics Visual Card system. This comprises a reader/writer and plastic magnetic swipe cards, resembling loyalty or credit cards. Each card contains a magnetic stripe to the reverse for unique identification and a display panel to the front which can be re-written up to 10,000 times. Cards are used to represent components within the process, with the panel being updated to display the status of products being produced during the simulation. As the Star card passes through the different stages of the system, the panel is updated to display the product name, quantity, works order, number and condition, for example. The Star reader/writer systems utilized within the TQM 9000 are located at the "goods in" and ""espatch" stations.
