The British Computer Society (BCS), recognizing the rapid and significant changes in computing and information systems, has completely revised its examination. The syllabus for the new BCS Professional Examination is a mix of up-to-date theory and current working practice. It is designed to better reflect the needs of IT employers and put greater emphasis on business and management issues. The modular structure of the Examination is intended to be manageable and flexible, so candidates can study in a time frame that suits them and still fulfil their normal working commitments.
Three stages of qualification: Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma, plus a Professional Project, allow candidates to demonstrate their expertise at their chosen level, and to progress at their own pace. In addition, some academic and professional qualifications will grant the holder exemption from particular modules or whole levels.
The BCS Professional Examination is internationally recognized and respected, not only as proof of knowledge and competence in computing and information systems, but as a pathway to professional membership of the BCS. Combined with the right amount of work experience, successful completion of the Diploma (equivalent to HND level) will lead to Associate Member of the BCS; and achievement of the Advanced Diploma (equivalent to honours degree level) will lead to full Member status.
There will be a variety of course formats offered by recognized course providers around the UK and in the British Computer Society's main overseas markets. There is a comprehensive range of supporting literature available, including a Study Guide for candidates with the syllabus, regulations, guidance notes and membership details.
