Describes the diversity practices that have been developed in a number of US firms (Bright Horizons Family Solutions, NV Energy Inc., Sodexo Inc., and others) that are having a real impact on diversity and equality of opportunities and also have improved the firms’ business and financial performance. Notes that some firms are linking performance evaluation to diversity. Acknowledges the criticisms, which are still being made, that diversity management leads to tokenism but underlines that those firms that work hard at creating effective diversity management initiatives and integrate it with other business tools, reap the benefits.
