Describes the adoption of SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age), a common reference model for the identification of the skills needed to work in ICT and which has been adopted internationally, by the Technology Division within the Westpac Group as a tool to support its Job Family Framework (JFF) for technology staff to help them continue developing their careers. Explains that the bank had, for a number of years, used a JFF but something much broader was wanted that would help the business and the individual through the whole employment lifecycle. Discusses the way that the tool is practical, and help employees to understand what competencies are required for their role, to provide insights into how they could differentiate their performance, and maps out their career. Concludes that, in addition to professional development, SFIA helps employers in other stages of the human resource management (HRM) cycle, including recruitment. ISSN: 1324-5945 Reference: 40AL557
