Purpose – discusses the diversity policies used by Asda and how they deal with issues of religion. Design/methodology/approach – notes the company’s commitment to respect and the benefits in terms of customer service and loyalty. Discusses the company’s Diversity Policy Handbook, the internal publications provided, the use of flexible working, training, the role of line managers and communication channels. Looks at positive measures taken to share understanding and improve recruitment, how advice on religion and belief is obtained and feedback gathered. Notes Asda’s business success. Provides an inset which contains extracts from the Diversity Policy Handbook dealing with race and religious and philosophical belief. Findings – considers that respecting belief systems and empowering them to inform policies and practices allows the company to reflect the diversity of its customer base and deliver excellent customer service.
