Editorial

I am delighted to introduce you to Gender in Management: An International Journal (formally known as Women in Management Review). Following a consultation exercise and research undertaken by Emerald into Women in Management Review's market, it was decided that re-launching the journal under a new title was necessary. This re-launch is a major step forward for the journal and one which myself and Emerald feel will secure the journal's continuing growth in a competitive scholarly publications market. The title change reflects the broader social context influencing gender in management issues and also the journal's growing international reputation. Under its new name and revised editorial mission, the journal will move squarely into the broader field of gender-based management studies and in so doing, will make itself open to new author communities and a wider range of research topics.

With the aim of reinforcing its renewed scholarly focus one of the key changes to the journal will be a move from a single to a double blind review system. This has led to the establishment of a dedicated Editorial Review Board (ERB) to assist in the move to a two stage review system. This also coincides with a move to Manuscript Central on 4 March 2008, for the management of all manuscripts, which should make the process of submission and review more efficient and streamlined. The ERB is comprised of the following members:

  • Rachel August – Department of Psychology, California State University

  • Carlos Cabral-Cardoso – School of Economics and Management, University of Minho

  • Ian Fillis – University of Stirling

  • Professor Jeff Hearn – Swedish School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland; Linköping University, Sweden

  • Savita Kumra – Business School, Oxford Brookes University

  • Patricia Lewis – Kent Business School, University of Kent

  • Sue Marlow – De Montfort University

  • Lynn Martin – Birmingham City University

  • Sharon Mavin – Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University

  • Duncan McTavish – Glasgow Caledonian Business School

  • Beverly Dawn Metcalfe – Business and Computing Deanery, Liverpool Hope University

  • Karen Miller – Glasgow Caledonian University

  • Liz Parsons – University of Keele

  • Ruth Sealy – Cranfield School of Management

  • Ruth Simpson – Brunel Business School, Brunel University

  • Elaine Swan – Lancaster University

  • Tracy Tuten Ryan – Virginia Commonwealth University

  • Shirley Anne Tate – Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, University of Leeds

  • Mary L. Tucker – College of Business, Ohio University

  • Glenice Wood – Ballarat, Australia

  • Carol Woodhams – Plymouth Business School

  • Helen M. Woolnough – Manchester Business School, The Centre for Equality and Diversity at Work, The University of Manchester

I would like to formally welcome the new ERB members to the journal and I look forward to working with all of them over the coming years. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Editorial Advisory Board members for their continued support, especially throughout this process of change. It is privilege to work with such committed professionals, who are active in promoting and developing the journal.

We also have a change to the editorial team at Emerald. Paula Fernandez, the Managing Editor, who had been at Emerald for 13 years, has left to pursue a new career in teaching. Paula will be sadly missed; she has provided tremendous support for the journal and myself and I will miss her a great deal. However, we are very fortunate to have a new and committed editorial team, with Nancy Rolph as our new managing editor. Nancy has been working hard on the changes to the journal and I know she is going to be a great asset to the new Gender in Management: An International Journal.

In addition, in our aim to move toward increasing our scholarly standing we have new guidelines for reviewers, which can be found on the journal's web site at: www.emeraldinsight.com/gm.htm

We have also decided to include these in this first issue of the Gender in Management: An International Journal, to set the scene for the journal's future direction.

Welcome to the new journal.

Sandra L. Fielden
