This issue of Facilities is based on a selection of several papers from the 23 papers accepted for the 3rd European Research Symposium in Facilities Management, held on 12-14 May 2004 in Copenhagen. The Symposium ran in parallel with, and as part of, the European Facilities Management Conference 2004, and participants were able to walk between research and practice sessions, which created a good climate for interaction. The research sessions were arranged under five themes – FM in General, Sustainability, Health Care, Operation and Service Management, and Workplace – followed by a roundtable discussion on cultures in European Facilities Management.
The Copenhagen Symposium was organized by the Danish Facilities Management Association in cooperation with Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden and The Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. It followed on the EuroFM Research Symposium held in Salford 9-10 April 2002 and the Rotterdam Symposium held on 17 May 2003. Selected papers from the Salford symposium have been developed into an anthology, Facilities Management: Innovation and Performance, soon to be published.
