At Survive 2000, SG-RS (part of the Sema Group) exhibited RecallOnline, a data backup and recovery service aimed at organisations with a high number of mobile laptop users. The service offers two key features; automatic backup of data from a laptop and rapid data retrieval.
RecallOnline uses bespoke software developed for SG-RS by Ontrack Data International Inc. This has been developed with the needs of the mobile user in mind, so that, for instance, network traffic and strains on bandwidth are minimised by backing up only those portions of files that have been modified, in addition to using a high level of file compression. All files are encrypted using DES encryption (standard data encryption) before leaving a user's laptop and always remain encrypted in SG-RS's data centre, providing full data security. In addition, SG-RS's backup data centre is itself mirrored in a separate building, ensuring total peace of mind.
The service is now operational in the UK and Ireland, and is due to be rolled out to France and Spain later in the year.
