Keywords Awards, Buildings, Services

Oscar Faber is the Year 2000 H&V News Building Services Engineer of the Year. Against fierce competition, including from the Millennium Dome, the company won the award for its state-of-the-art building services in the new Sainsbury's Millennium Store, Greenwich.

The 14 distinguished expert judges, drawn from all sides of the industry, ranging from CIBSE and John Lewis' to DTI and BRE, described the company's work as both "environmentally outstanding" and "highly sustainable".

The judges said:

This project benefited from the client's wish for the building to be "daringly different" with energy savings of up to 50 per cent and the highest BREEAM score that could be achieved. Oscar Faber played a significant part in helping the store reach the maximum 31 points. The design incorporates natural lighting and ventilation, it uses ground water for cooling and waste heat for heating.

The H&V Awards for Excellence, is now considered to be one of the building services industry's premier accolades, with entries in categories ranging from building services to apprentice of the year. The Awards Ceremony, in the Hilton Hotel, was sold out some two months beforehand. The Awards' sponsors and supporters include large international companies ranging from Toshiba, sponsor of the Building Services Engineer of the Year Award, to the Chartered Institution for Building Services Engineers.

Oscar Faber also was recently awarded second place in the Major Consultant of the Year Awards, published in New Civil Engineer. For further information contact Bill O'Neill on +44 (0)208 784 5986 or Tel: +44 (0)181 784 5784; Fax: +44 (0)181 784 5700; Web: www.oscarfaber.co.uk
