Transco, in association with The Society of British Gas Industries, has launched the new edition of the Directory of Energy Saving Gas Equipment – a quick reference guide for all those in the facilities management industry involved with the use of energy.

Energy efficiency and environmental awareness has never been more important than it is now. The need to cut costs is creating a growing awareness of the importance of energy-efficient equipment and the directory offers business users access to organisations that provide equipment which could cut consumption and reduce emissions.

All entries contained in the directory, which can be obtained by calling 0800 328 26 26, are alphabetically listed by company name in a series of sub-divisions within ten principal sections. The first six sections provide information about the types of equipment available for a variety of applications, with the latter sections providing details of service providers who can assist with gas supply and installation – allowing the user to cross-reference companies to the services they provide.

Paul Greengrass, business development manager of Transco, comments: "Gas remains one of the most versatile of fuels and is now more controllable than ever, thanks to the technical developments made to equipment over the past few years. This extra control can lead to improved production processes, reductions in consumption and emission levels, and ultimately a reduction in costs."

Gas-fired technologies can reduce overall energy consumption and help to cut maintenance and equipment running costs. These savings have allowed numerous gas consumers to enjoy an early payback on their investment in new equipment. A significant reduction in pollutants is also a major factor in converting to gas-fired technologies. Gas does less to harm the environment than other fossil fuels by reducing emissions of CO2, SOx and NOx.

The Directory also contains a section on Combined Heat and Power (CHP) – fast becoming the preferred energy option for organisations with its proven energy-saving ability. The security of supply a CHP system provides, plus the added benefit of emissions reductions makes it a winner all round. Gas-fired CHP is also more than capable of coping with stricter environmental controls.

Good quality CHP provides users with an exemption from the Climate Change Levy (CCL) introduced by the Government to drive users to reduce their overall energy consumption.
