Multi-sensor unit offers safer alternative to existing ionisation detectors
Alarmcom has announced a new combined optical smoke detector and heat sensor that provides a high level of fire detection for commercial and domestic property. The new dual technology OH320C uses optical and heat sensors to quickly detect all types of fire, providing an effective alternative to ionisation detectors which have caused concern because of their use of hazardous radioactive material.
The OH320C uses fuzzy logic to evaluate temperature and smoke signals and can be programmed to provide standard or high sensitivity via the control unit, as well as being able to detect problems in the event that the sensor becomes impaired through soiling. Other features include a built-in response indicator to provide on-site signalling of an alarm; individual identification of detectors in a system and an optional anti-theft device.
Product manager Frank Battersby explained the reason for the new launch, "Many types of fire produce visible smoke which will be detected by the optical unit, but some materials such as plastics and paints can combust with less visible gaseous emissions that are not easily identified by optical technology. This is where the heat sensor provides protection by identifying the heat source even before visible smoke has been produced."
