One of the most comprehensive reports ever made into the UK fire protection industry has been published, with one of its conclusions being an estimated value for the UK market in excess of £2 billion at end user prices.

The Competitive Analysis of the UK Fire Protection Industry report was commissioned by the Fire Industry Council (FIC) with support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The report's main objective was to provide a better understanding of the competitiveness of the UK industry at a time of significant change in the world of fire protection.

The 90-page document received the full support and co-operation of the manufacturers and suppliers of both active and passive fire protection products, with major companies supplying data to ensure the report reflected the market as accurately as possible. It highlights that the size of the market has, for many years, been seriously under-estimated and gives a breakdown of the market value across a number of sectors, from portable fire extinguishers and fire detection and alarm systems to fire doors and fire resistant glass.
