A handy pocket guide to site safety is now available to all fitters and installers of industrial and commercial metal doors and shutters from the Door and Shutter Manufacturers' Association (DSMA).

The colourful illustrated guide gives guidance to site fitters on all aspects of safety including protective equipment, scaffold safety, avoiding harmful substances and safe handling of tools and equipment.

It is aimed at new recruits, experienced door installers and supervisors. An expanded printed version setting out all safety obligations under the various regulations is available to employers to keep on file.

Said DSMA secretary Michael Skelding: "Preventing accidents is everyone's concern. This handy guide should be carried by all employees on site".

"Distributing the guide to employees, and ensuring they read the full printed version, will help door and shutter companies meet their statutory obligations to protect the safety and welfare of their employees."

The booklets are being distributed to DSMA member companies. Non-member companies can order copies at £3 each (£2 for complete version). To order contact the Secretariat, DSMA, 42 Heath Street, Tamworth, Staffs B79 7JH. Tel: 01827 52337; Fax: 01827 310827.
