Construction dinosaurs' days are numbered

Construction dinosaurs' "days are numbered"

Keyword Construction industry

"Leading construction businesses that have been exploiting the benefits of benchmarking for several years are now clearly outperforming their competitors. Businesses that don't embrace benchmarking face an uncertain future. They're the firms which believe construction work in the UK can carry on in the same inefficient way. They ignore new initiatives and relationships and dismiss them as passing fads. And, like all dinosaurs, their days are numbered", says a recently published practical guide to benchmarking in construction.

The information in this new publication was drawn mainly from a project called "Benchmarking for construction", which aimed to provide benchmarking guidance to encourage the construction industry and its clients to make use of what has become the key business tool to effect change.

The project was led by BRE in collaboration with the University of Reading, Taywood Engineering, and industry partners: British Steel Strip Products, Building Design Partnership, Gardiner & Theobald, McKinsey & Co, Sainsburys, Stanhope plc, and Tavistock Institute. It was jointly sponsored by DETR, ESPRC and industry.

Measuring up. A Practical Guide to Benchmarking in Construction gives a clear explanation of benchmarking and its benefits and practical guidance on its use. It is illustrated throughout with case studies of the experiences of leading businesses.
