Abstract

The 1988 British Crime Survey showed that almost 25 per cent of violent incidents and over one‐third of threats experienced by individuals were work‐related, especially affecting employees in public transport, the National Health Service, on licensed premises, in DHSS and housing offices and, to a lesser extent, in the retail sector. A recent Health and Safety Executive seminar focused on the growing problem and recommend management practices to identify and cope with difficulties.
