Undergraduates who have developed original scientific ideas or concepts are invited to apply for the Archimedes Prize, offered under the European Union's Fifth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. Grants of up to 50,000 euros per project are offered for scientific and technological achievements in the areas of:

  • aid for the disabled;

  • desertification and drought;

  • mathematical modelling for social and economic sciences; or

  • new medicines from natural sources.
