City learning centres unveiled
Keywords Computer-based training, Learning organisations, Information technology
The Government has announced a new generation of high-technology learning centres for the inner cities. The first 32 of 80 city learning centres will use the latest in information and communications technology to develop IT resources to be used by clusters of local schools. London will have 11 centres, Birmingham six, and there will be two each in Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool, Knowsley, Sheffield, Rotherham, Manchester and Salford. City learning centres will eventually be based in schools and serve surrounding schools as well. Facilities will include language laboratories and other technology-based learning opportunities. Computer suites will be available for use by the wider community.
