British universities host more than 30,000 conferences a year, with peaks during the vacations, according to figures released by the British Universities Accommodation Consortium.
Compared with those held outside the universities, these conferences are typically larger in size (almost double the number of delegates), longer (almost twice as long) and much more likely to be residential.
Universities are able to provide access to technological, scientific and professional resources and expertise.
Daily non-residential delegate rates are well below the British average. Residential rates are competitive with those of other classes of provider.
