The book is in fact a ground‐breaking study on the role of international investment in energy technologies to combat climate change. It focuses on developing country requirements in south east Asia, explaining how privatization, international investment and rural electrification can be integrated to maximize environmental policy and benefit investors. Due to its analytical nature, it has a strong management component, illustrating how politics, economics and social elements influence the environmental conservation process.

The author examines the main barriers to private sector investment and identifies the incentives and regulatory structures needed to accelerate investment without damaging local competitiveness. The book shows that ‘technology transfer’ is fundamentally a question of ownership of investment and describes the enormous potential in developing economies for local level investment and public‐private partnerships in environmental policy.

The scope of the book and the fact that it tackles a matter of prime importance (investment) to a major issue (climate change) means that it should find great interest among those interested in the economics and politics of environmental protection.
