An overwhelming 75 per cent of respondents in a recent survey of growing business believe that e-commerce will be an important source of business in two or three years time; 55 per cent are investing heavily in developing their Internet potential. However, only 32 per cent saw e-commerce as an important source of business today.

The information is taken from a survey report to be published next month. The Manches Growing Business Survey was issued to a high quality respondent pool comprising 400 of the law firm's contacts that fitted the category of growing businesses with a turnover of between £2.5 million and £100 million.

"Growing businesses are clear that e-commerce and the Internet are the way forward", says Peter Stevens, IT partner at City law firm Manches. "Even though only 32 per cent saw e-commerce as an important source of business now, the results suggest that firms have recognised its potential. It is becoming increasingly clear that anyone failing to do so risks being left behind".

The full survey report was published in November 1999 and covers a range of issues likely to affect growing business.
