Abstract

As commodity prices have continued to shrink in relation to prices for imported manufactured goods, the countries of the Third World have tried to maintain their export incomes through higher output. For agricultural products, this has been made possible by rapid advances in plant breeding and husbandry — and frequently by funds from international aid and development agencies.
