After World War 2, rickets had disappeared from the U.K. Then in 1960, 19 consecutive cases were reported from Guy's Hospital. A little later, Gavin Arneil discovered cases of rickets in Glasgow. Half of these cases were among non‐British children, but although many of these were coloured, they also included Irish and Spanish children. This showed that lack of skin pigment does not necessarily protect children against rickets.
