TY - JOUR AB - Expert medical and scientific committees in several countries have stressed the multifactorial nature of coronary heart disease and have listed the factors which may increase the risk of an individual towards coronary heart disease. One of the conclusions reached by the committees is that there is a correlation between a high intake of saturated fat and elevated serum cholesterol levels, the latter predisposing to a higher incidence of coronary heart disease. While to date there is no absolute proof of the direct relationship between these factors, nevertheless, most of the committees have recommended that those at high risk should reduce their intake of saturated fat and partially substitute foods containing polyunsaturated fatty acids.
