Keener competition in the wake of the Budget

Abstract

The ‘revival’ Budget, with the rise in MLR, meant a nasty relapse for the lending institutions. But for those manufacturing concerns still in the market for finance, dearer borrowing could bring with it the marginal benefit of keener competition in the banking community — aided by the increasing presence in the UK of foreign banks.
