Abstract

THE CLIMATE for company finance has changed dramatically in the last few years. A survey carried out in 1971 identified over one hundred institutions who provided “Expansion Capital” to businesses. This Expansion Capital fell into two categories, “Seed Capital” to start a new venture and “Development Capital” to expand an existing business. These institutions included Merchant Banks, Issuing Houses, Clearing Bank subsidiaries and specialist institutions set up to channel funds to industry.
