Abstract

The rare combination of promising home market prospects and an upturn in exports — aided by the downward float of the pound — is giving British car manufacturers cause for renewed optimism. But apart from the ever‐present danger of domestic labour troubles, there's a potential sting in the export tail: The US fuel crisis is prompting serious talk about petrol rationing.
