Abstract

Party unity prevailed. Predicted revolts by the Labour Left and Conservative Right were expertly thwarted by the respective leaderships. But in the political conference aftermath there lingers the impression that this was not so much an occasion for resolving fundamental clashes of opinion, more a hurried patching up job.
