Abstract

OF the two types of thrust bearing employing, respectively, slot and orifice feed, investigations at the City University have shown that if steam is admitted as a lubricant, the slot configuration does not suffer from excited vibration in the form of pneumatic or steam hammer. Typical orifice‐fed and slot‐fed air type bearings are shown in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively.
