Abstract

BAKING DATES back to antiquity and the origin of fire. The age of fire contributed materially to the progress of Man. He contrived the crude tools which enabled him to hunt and defend himself effectually, even to construct crude shelters and to vary his food requirements by tilling the soil. So the art of baking came about, after Man had learned to plant wheat, for example, and to beat the grains into coarse flour.
