TY - JOUR AB - The SECOND EMERSOL PLANT TO BE operated by Price's (Bromborough) Ltd., was announced by J. Arnold Pox, Chairman, at a press reception in London recently. Outlining the history of his company, which commenced operating at Bromborough, near Birkenhead in 1854 in connection with the processing of animal and vegetable fats and oils, Mr. Fox said that the business was acquired by Unilever Ltd. in 1936 and a major programme of reconstruction and modernisation has been carried out since the war. For over a hundred years, the conventional method of separation of fatty acids from glycerine has been to subject the fatty acids to hydraulic pressure, the liquid oleine being squeezed out in filter presses leaving the solid stearine. This method was cumbersome and called for a high degree of skill, and it was also dirty to operate.
