TY - JOUR AB - The use of drum heaters by the lubricant industry for emptying drums rapidly for purposes of blending, or for rapidly draining drums returned from customers, is growing. Last year we described the Stabilag drum heater and previous to this the Heron heater, both of these having proved that considerable time and money can be saved by lubrication oil companies who use them. The use of these drum heaters is not by any means confined to the oil industry since they are just as valuable to anyone who has to empty or to drain drums and barrels of heavy viscous liquids or greases. The emptying and recovery of certain types of viscous materials, often a troublesome problem in industry, can be greatly speeded up by heating the container and melting the material to be handled thereby allowing removal by dipping, pouring or pumping. In the case of oils and greases, the layer of lubricant adjacent to the wall of the drum is all that needs to be melted to permit the entire contents to be dropped into the blending pan or other receptacle placed underneath the drum.
