The Queen Mother Opens Coryton Refinery

Abstract

HER Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother opened the Vacuum Oil Company's new refinery at Coryton, Essex, on Thursday, 27th May. Before unveiling a simple but dignified commemorative bronze tablet Her Majesty made a short speech, in which she congratulated those concerned with the installation of this large refinery on land which was previously marshes. The Queen Mother also stressed the importance and value of Anglo‐American relations and said, “It is good to see here our friends from the United States and we greet them as comrades in the field of industry as warmly as we did as brothers in arms.”
