Abstract

Large scale centrifugal filters have been employed for the filtration of bulk liquids and lubricating oils for many years, and no one doubts their efficiency. They can handle large volumes of oil, their principle of operation is simple and foolproof, and there are no filter elements to replace. As far as we know, however, the principle of centrifugal separation has not hitherto been applied to filters fitted to road vehicles, and when we recently inspected the new Centrifugal Oil Filter, now being produced by the Glacier Metal Company Ltd., Alperton, Wembley, Middx., wo wondered why. The results claimed for this new filter leave little doubt that this type has certain advantages which should enable it to be used for all types of internal combustion engine. At present, the model being manufactured is intended for use mainly on commercial motor vehicles and stationary oil engines, but that a model suitable for use on private motor cars will also be produced eventually is almost a certainty.
