Abstract

As staled in our Editorial, most papers submitted in the class for awards to those not engaged in the lubricant industry were not of the practical character that we wished. This contribution, which has the most practical appeal of those submitted was therefore selected to win the award. Lubricant users, in all industries, will find interest in these details about fatty oils, which, although termed by the author “Ugly Sisters” do play a very important part in a large volume of lubricants and in spite of the greater use of chemical additives, are still employed in considerable quantities for oils and greases. Mr. Slinn is a chemist at British Timken Ltd.
