Abstract

To understand the impact of the so‐called ‘new media’ of communication on today's organisations, we must not only understand what these new media are, but understand the way in which they alter the relationship between information and the organisation. This demands some historical perspective. For every medium of communication has an effect on the form and content of the information which is passed, on the people receiving it and on the conditions under which it is received.
