Abstract

What happens when a library outgrows its second automated circulation and cataloguing system? It sets stringent functional, performance and growth specifications and builds from scratch. This article describes Discovery Place, which was built on Tandem hardware for the Columbus Metropolitan Library and became operational in November of 1988. The specific focus is on the features of the design which the development team incorporated to meet the contracted performance guarantees.
