Abstract

It has been estimated that in 1980 local government in Britain produced about 50,000 documents. In the same year the British National Bibliography included 42,000 publications and of these a mere 250 emanated from local authorities. This gives a percentage of 0.5 per cent appearance in the BNB and shows the size of the problem.
