TY - JOUR AB - The SIBIL system originated in software developed for the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire in Lausanne, Switzerland in the early 1970s. SIBIL is now seen as a bibliographic tool providing a regional service for shared cataloguing and is installed in five centres in Switzerland, France and Luxembourg. The co‐operative formed by SIBIL users (REBUS) supports staff involved in the development of SIBIL and in the interconnection of regional networks. The paper describes the current main functions of SIBIL and outlines some possible developments for SIBIL 2000.
