Interfacing CDS/ISIS with WordStar: ICIMOD's experience

Abstract

The mini‐microcomputer version of CDS/ISIS (Computerised Documentation System/Integrated Set Information Systems), developed by the Division of UNESCO Library, Archives and Documentation Services, is a generalised system, designed for the computerised management of non‐numerical databases. The first version was released in 1985. Because of having many good features, bearing credible institution's maintenance and development support, and (most of all) being provided free‐of‐charge, the package is getting wider and faster acceptance with users throughout the world. Many regional and international agencies are investing considerable efforts to promote the system. The software is distributed through regional or national agencies designated for the purpose. Where such an agency is not available, the program can be obtained directly from UNESCO. Before getting the program, the requesting institution has to enter into agreement with UNESCO for the license to use the software.
