Abstract
UMIST Library's implementation of the ADLIB (Adaptive Library Management) system began in 1984 and is currently used for acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation control and periodicals holdings. A retrospective conversion programme is underway. Catalogue output is currently on microfiche but it will move to an OPAC (online public access catalogue) in the near future. This article describes UMIST's application of the system and assesses its advantages and disadvantages.
