Abstract

A detailed history and description of the REMARC project, which is carrying out the conversion from the LC Shelf list of all records not on USMARC. This is an undertaking on a very large scale, and has the co‐operation of the LC Automated Systems Office, which takes the tapes produced in Scotland and adds the MARC tags to the raw data. The records are then available for any library which wants to converts its catalogue to machine readable form and the project includes search programs. The article includes examples of how this works, and concludes with a list of tags and data included.
