Abstract

A computer‐based catalogue system which provides author and Dewey classified listings of monographs is described. Tape typewriter input is used for monthly updating of the master file; the paper tape is also used to produce cards for parallel maintenance of the traditional card catalogue. So far, 20 000 items (out of the library's current stock of 85 000 monographs) have been entered. One thousand new acquisitions are added each month and an accessions list is obtained as a by‐product of the system. A subject index system is also maintained. The periodicals listing system, covering 1200 journal titles, provides alphabetical and classified listings. COM is likely to be adopted for catalogue production in the near future.
