Abstract

Since the beginning of January 1971 a computerised acquisitions system has been in experimental operation in Manchester University Library. The system is based on weekly update runs on an ICL 1901A computer belonging to the Computer Unit for the Registrar's and Bursar's Department of the University. The basic systems specification was produced by members of the library staff. The systems design and programming were completed in a period of ten weeks by a team of two analysts and two programmers of the Computer Unit.
