Abstract

Moving from a small Eastern European country to North America (Canada) while working in the IT industry gave me an exciting experience and an opportunity to think about the differences and similarities in the industry between the two countries. I have a degree in computer engineering from an Eastern European university and more than 15 years of experience in the IT industry there, and now almost one year of working experience in two high‐tech companies in Canada. Maybe one year is not enough for deep analysis and conclusions but I think that the first impressions are often quite interesting. While a whole book could be written on the different aspects of technological development and implementation, education and training, people's attitudes and so on, here I have tried to touch only on some areas which I felt were most important for me.
